FROM THE PASTOR: Rev. Larry Hoffmann

With summer’s activities, weekend trips, and vacations it is easy to lose the discipline of keeping Sabbath. Rabbi Abraham Heschel in his book, The Sabbath, writes, “That the Sabbath and eternity are one – or of the same essence – is an ancient idea. A legend relates that ‘at the time when God was giving the Torah to Israel, He said to them: My children! If you accept the Torah and observe my mitzvoth, I will give you for all eternity a thing most precious that I have in my possession.

-And what, asked Israel, is that precious thing which Thou wilt give us if we obey? Thy Torah?

-The world to come.

- Show us in this world an example of the world to come.

-The Sabbath is an example of the world to come.’”

There is a sacredness to life and a connection with God’s eternity that is a part of our keeping Sabbath. Thus, it is important to continue Sabbath keeping throughout the seasons of the year. So, whether home or away, keep connected with God through weekly worship.

Grace and peace to you,

Larry

Our blessing bag project (formerly known as breakfast to go bags) ran from September 2025 through May 2026. We are so thankful to everyone who helped us with this project this school year.

The total number of bags packed for this school year was 10,166. The cost was $9,735.82, and the total hours of volunteers helping was 9,066 hours. We also had donations of $1,600.00. Our volunteer crew was Scott Bergreen, Marilyn Boyd, Sue Burnworth, Ron and Cindy Cullumber, Rose Ann Elliott, and Cinda Keller, Without their continued help with this project, we would not be able to pack these bags each week. Rose Ann Elliott deserves a special thank you for picking up these bags and for delivering them to Bremen Elementary each week then returning them to us for the next week. The last week she left us a note. It said “I am so happy to be a part of this. My grandchildren have pitched in and helped me load and unload, and I enjoy Grandma time and the opportunity to teach them to help others. I am so thankful to everyone that helps to accomplish this for the students at Bremen Elementary.”

Blessing to everyone – Sue Henwood
